Leonard Nevarez is an assistant professor in the sociology department. He received his Ph.D. in sociology at the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1999. His research interests are community participation by software, entertainment, and tourism companies, the role of high-technology and the symbolic economy in urban development, environmental/quality-of-life politics, and natural resource extraction industries. Courses he teaches include Corporate Power, Urban Sociology:Building the City (cross-listed in Urban Studies) High-Technology and Society (cross-listed in Science and Technology Studies), Introductory Sociology, Urban Theory (in Urban Studies), and Research Methods. When he is not working, he can often be found listening to music or playing musical instruments.
